Underworld Rafting

Underworld Rafting: Is a “Cave Rafting Adventure” in the Paparoa National Park where we take the rainforest train through the primeval rain forest and explore a calcitic paradise in one of NZ’s largest caves complete with stalactites and stalagmites.

We float through' incredible Glow-worm lit grottoes and have fun bouncing down the small Nile River rapids.

Underworld Adventures operate in one of New Zealand's largest unmodified cave systems where you will experience one of the world's most outstanding displays of glowworms in a simply superb unmodified and well-decorated cave, complete with amazing photogenic stalactite and stalagmite formations

We take the Rainforest Train through the primeval rain forest and explore a calcitic paradise in the upper levels of one of NZ's largest cave systems complete with stalactites and stalagmites. In the lower levels of the cave we float through incredible glowworm-lit grottos and have fun bouncing down the Nile River rapids.

Be assured that you will experience a simply stunning “soft adventure” in an overwhelmingly unspoiled environment in small groups with friendly and knowledgeable hosts.

Key Information:

• We provide: All Specialized clothing and equipment. Westport / Charleston Courtesy Coach, Drinks and Free Digital Images on all adventure activities.

• You provide: Swimmers and a towel for “Underworld Rafting”

• Suitable: for people with water confidence 10 and over.

• All Trips Depart Daily: 9.00am, 11:30am & 2.00pm NZ Daylight Saving Hours - (10:00am & 12.30pm winter).

• Location: Our Base is in “The Charleston Hotel” alongside State Highway 6, halfway between Punakaiki and Westport. (Allow 20minutes ex Westport & 35minutes ex Punakaiki)

• Transport & Location: is provided to and from our departure point at “The Charleston Hotel” on State Highway 6, Charleston from Westport and by arrangement for groups of 6 or more from Punakaiki.

• Cancellation Policy: Underworld Adventures reserves the right to cancel any trip due to inclement conditions. and will refund in full given 24hours notice or more.
