Day trip suggestions from here:

Option 1 – Walk the Charming Creek Walkway (right behind us), one of the South Island’s top daywalks – do just the first hour and a half to the Mangatini Falls/Watson’s Mill picnic area or all (3hrs each way).

Option 2 – Head 25 mins south to Charleston and the stunning short Constant Bay walk (20 mins), Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes/Truman Track walk (half an hour), then on the homeward bound leg, to Tauranga Bay, and the Cape Foulwind Seal Colony.

Option 3 – Head north 62 kms to Karamea, the giant limestone arches and ancient caves and forests of the Oparara Basin, and the start of the might Heaphy Great Walk.

Option 4 – Head up to The High Plateau (minutes away) – Book an OutWest Tour of New Zealand’s largest open cast coal mine (all day for $10!!);  or book on the new Denniston Experience trips; or self discover Millerton (a quaint high altitude mining village and walks), and the Denniston Incline.

Option 5 – Mountain bike any of a large choice of routes from beginners to advanced, raft, jet boat, or just chill out, beach fossick, and book a magical ocean-edge candlelit hot tub……we promise you won’t be bored!
